Are you a Twitter User and also happen to be a small business owner or entrepreneur? If so, you may be feeling the frustration that many are feeling with the recent changes that have been implemented on the platform.

Twitter has announced the return of its subscription service, Twitter Blue, which offers access to exclusive features such as an

  • Edit Tweet function

  • 1080p video uploads

  • Reader mode

Subscribers will also receive a blue checkmark ✔️after their accounts are reviewed to ensure they meet all requirements and pass Twitter's rules against impersonation. While all this may seem enticing, Twitter Blue does not come without a price tag- costing $8/month on web and $11/month on iOS this price point may make it difficult for small businesses to justify the expense. The information provided by Twitter at this time does not make it clear why there is a difference in cost, only that if you signed up for a $2.99 or $4.99 price point in the past, that is your new cost moving forward or if you use it on iOS or Android it's going to cost you 11 bucks a month to continue using it. Is the cost worth being able to have an NFT profile photo? Maybe having Tweets up to 4,000 characters will? Additionally, Twitter's Verification for Organizations will also allow an organization to link any number of their affiliated individuals, businesses and brands to their account. When they do, affiliated accounts will get a small badge of their parent company's profile picture next to their blue or gold checkmark. Examples of how this is used is if you are a team with affiliates beneath you or have member organizations.

To make Twitter even more desirable outside of being privately-owned by Elon Musk... it is making it more difficult for non-subscribers to access features, such as the two-factor authentication method of using SMS. From March 20th on, non-Twitter Blue subscribers will no longer be able to use this method.

Despite the snazzy new features available, it remains to be seen whether Twitter is worth it for small businesses with limited budgets. Will you be a Twitter Blue member? Let us know in the comments.
